Gutter Cleaning in Troy, NY

We scoop leaves, seeds and muck out of your gutters by hand, flush every downspout and check the hangers and pitch while we are up there. Water runs off the roof instead of spilling over the edge, soaking the fascia or freezing into ice along the eaves.

What a gutter cleaning takes care of

Gutters fill faster than most people think. Maple seeds, oak leaves, shingle grit and pine needles settle in the trough, hold water and turn into a heavy, wet sludge. Once the outlet clogs, rain spills over the front edge, runs down the fascia and lands right at the foundation.

Our freeze-thaw winters make a clogged gutter worse. Standing water freezes, adds weight, pulls hangers loose and feeds ice along the eaves. Clearing the gutters in late fall and again in spring keeps that cycle in check, and it gives us a chance to spot loose hangers or low spots before they turn into bigger problems.

Our company is licensed and insured, has been in business 5 years, and is an authorized Gemstone Lights installer, so we know how to work around permanent lighting track on the roofline. Below, you can see what each cleaning covers.

What goes into a gutter cleaning

Debris removed by hand
We scoop leaves, seeds and sludge out of every run into a bucket, so the mess comes down the ladder with us instead of landing on your beds and walkways.
Downspouts flushed
We run water through each outlet and downspout to make sure it drains freely, and clear any clog packed into the elbows.
Hanger and fascia check
We check each hidden hanger or spike-and-ferrule and press-test the fascia behind it. Loose fasteners or soft wood get photographed and shown to you.
Pitch and drainage check
With the trough clean and water running, we watch for sections where water sits instead of moving toward the outlet, and point out low spots.
Cleanup on the ground
Bagged debris leaves with us, and we rinse off any splatter on siding, walkways or the driveway before we go.

Signs your gutters need cleaning

  • Water spilling over the edge

If rain sheets over the front of the gutter during a storm, the trough or outlet is blocked and water is landing at the foundation.

  • Plants growing in the gutter

Seedlings or grass sprouting along the roofline mean enough wet debris has built up to hold soil.

  • Downspouts that barely drip

A downspout that stays dry in a heavy rain is usually packed at the outlet or an elbow.

  • Stains or peeling paint on the fascia

Overflow runs down the trim and leaves streaks, blistered paint and eventually soft wood behind the gutter.

  • Sagging runs or heavy icicles

A gutter full of wet debris and ice pulls on its hangers. Sagging sections and thick icicles in winter are a sign it is holding too much.

What moves the price of gutter cleaning

Your quote comes from how many linear feet of gutter you have, how many stories we need to reach and how full the gutters are. We give you a free quote by phone and explain the number before anything is scheduled. If we find a loose hanger or soft fascia, you hear about it on the spot.

Linear feet of gutter

More gutter means more scooping and more downspouts to flush. A small ranch takes far less time than a house with gutters on every side.

Stories and access

A single-story ranch goes quickly. Two- and three-story runs, steep pitches and tight side yards need more ladder setup and care.

How full the gutters are

A light fall of leaves clears fast. Gutters that have gone years without cleaning, or sit under big trees, hold packed sludge that takes longer.

Downspouts and clogs

Each downspout gets flushed. A clog packed deep in an elbow or underground drain takes extra time to clear.

How a cleaning visit runs

  1. 1

    Walk-around

We walk the house, note each run of gutter, the downspouts, overhead wires and anything fragile below the eaves.

  2. 2

    Scoop and bag the debris

Ladders go up with standoffs so they rest on the roof, not the gutter. We scoop each run clean into a bucket and bag it on the ground.

  3. 3

    Flush and check

We flush every downspout, watch the water move along each run and check hangers, pitch and fascia. Problem spots get photographed for you.

  4. 4

    Clean up and walk through

We rinse off any splatter, haul away the debris and go over what we found with you or by phone.

Gutter cleaning questions

How often should my gutters be cleaned?

Most homes do well with a cleaning in late fall after the leaves drop and another in spring after the seeds come down. Houses under big trees may need it more often.

Do you flush the downspouts too?

Yes. Every downspout gets flushed with water so we know it drains, and we clear clogs packed into the elbows.

Will a clean gutter help with ice in winter?

It helps. Ice forms where water sits, and a clogged gutter holds water all season. A clean gutter that drains properly holds less ice and puts less weight on its hangers.

What if my fascia or gutters need repair?

We show you photos of what we found and tell you plainly what needs attention, such as a loose hanger, a low spot or soft fascia, so you can decide what to do next.

Do I need to be home for the cleaning?

No. We only need access around the house and an outdoor spigot for flushing. We go over what we found when you are back or by phone.
